Students demonstrate fluency discussing everyday activities, competence in reporting and describing past events, and proficiency expressing subjunctive notions of volition, emotion and doubt within the context of topical tasks and situations. Students can expect grammatical explanations and active participation in group interaction.

Evaluation is based on demonstrated proficiency in the use of pertinent vocabulary and structures by means of self-expression (oral and written) and functional translation. The course also attempts to promote cultural awareness. Classes are conducted primarily in Spanish.

Spanish 201 is a 3-credit course. It consists of 3 hours a week of scheduled class time and another unscheduled hour a week for Web or other writing tasks, for a total of about 48 programmed course hours.
